Dr. Young is an amazing vet and person! I'd drive to his practice for vet care long before going anywhere local in Carlsbad. Highly recommend. He has taken excellent care of our fur babies for the past five years.

I'm writing this review to share my experience and warn others that, when it comes to older or senior dogs, this animal clinic does not require or even recommend mandatory lab work before procedures. Unfortunately, my dog Noah recently passed away because of this. I wasn't informed about how crucial lab tests are before surgery to remove a mass from the back of his neck. Instead, I was only told that the mass could be sent out for testing, but the doctor assured me it wouldn't be necessary. Had they done lab work beforehand, they might have uncovered that he was suffering from liver failure, and we could have taken steps to treat it. The lab tests were only performed after the surgery, and at that point, the doctor failed to inform us that Noah had liver failure. They just prescribed medication and moved on. We took him to Cielo Grande in Roswell afterward, and that’s when we found out the truth—he had liver failure, and unfortunately, it was too late. He passed away soon after. It seems to me that Animal Clinic of Artesia doesn't prioritize the health of its senior dogs as much as it should.
